The General Directorate of Security has increased traffic controls within the framework of the plan prepared to combat crimes and ensure the safety of citizens.

In this context, traffic police were on duty in Western Thrace as they are throughout the country.

The General Directorate of Security organised special operations against regions and points where traffic offences are committed more frequently. Traffic control operations were carried out with the participation of traffic branch teams and plainclothes police officers.

According to the information shared by the police, a total of 23,907 people and 18,433 vehicles were checked across the country on Friday, 1 December. 876 people were found to have violated the law. 337 people were arrested for various offences.

During the controls, 5,168 traffic violations were detected. 213 vehicles were seized.

In the Province of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, and in particular in the regions of Kumçiftliği (Orestiada), Alexandroupoli, Rhodope, Xanthi, Kavala and Drama, 295 persons and 232 vehicles were checked.

5 people were found in violation of the law and 6 people were arrested. During the traffic controls, 26 drivers were found to be in violation of the traffic law.

The Security Directorate announced that such controls will continue at regular intervals, especially in December and January.
