Özgür Ferhat raises concerns over frost damage in Rodopi
Özgür Ferhat, the Member of Parliament for the New Left Party in Rodopi, has submitted a written parliamentary question to the Minister of Agriculture and Food regarding the damages caused by severe frost that occurred on March 19-21, 2025 in the Rodopi region.
In his question, Ferhat stated, "The frost occurred during the blossoming period of fruit trees, and the prolonged sub-zero temperatures caused significant damage to the production. Local farmers, already battling increasing costs and decreasing incomes, have previously been victimized by such disasters. In particular, after the frost event in previous years, they were delayed in receiving compensation, with payments made almost three years later. It is crucial that we avoid a similar delay this year. The producers must not be left in distress again."
Ferhat then posed the following questions to the Minister of Agriculture and Food:
- What urgent measures will the Ministry take to quickly assess and compensate the damages caused by the recent frost event in Rodopi?
- Is there any planning in place for advance payments to the affected farmers to help them meet their basic needs and continue their agricultural activities?
Ferhat emphasized the need for the Ministry to act swiftly and called for fair and timely compensation payments to support local farmers in continuing their production.
