Özgür Ferhat calls on government: "Immediate De Minimis support needed for livestock sector"
Ferhat emphasized that businesses located within the 3 and 10-kilometer quarantine zones, particularly in areas where animal diseases have been reported, are struggling to manage feed costs. He urged the government to urgently implement “de minimis” support.
In a press release from Ferhat’s political office, he stated: “Livestock businesses in Rhodope and other affected areas are experiencing serious economic losses due to the ban on animal movements and slaughter operations. The continuous extension of quarantine periods has led to the depletion of feed stocks and increased feed prices, which raises costs for businesses and decreases the market value of their animals.”
Ferhat harshly criticized the government's insensitivity, stating: "Our producers in the livestock sector are suffering due to the government's delayed decisions. There is an urgent need to provide 'de minimis' support to help cover feed costs. These individuals are not only struggling to feed their animals but are also facing income loss and are unable to sell their livestock. The government cannot ignore this difficult period our farmers are experiencing."
He also highlighted the income losses faced by producers and posed the following questions to the government:
Will the New Democracy government immediately implement 'de minimis' support to help livestock producers cover feed costs?
What additional economic support measures does the government plan to provide to compensate for the income losses faced by livestock producers who are unable to sell meat and milk?
