Özgür Ferhat brings livestock associations' demands to Parliament

Özgür Ferhat, Member of Parliament for the Rodopi New Left Party, has presented a report to the Parliament highlighting the demands of livestock associations in the Eastern Macedonia and Thrace (EMT) region.
In the report submitted to the Ministry of Agriculture and Food, Ferhat brought attention to the requests made by DMT Livestock Associations to strengthen public veterinary services. The associations have highlighted the need for better infrastructure and personnel within public veterinary services to ensure the security and development of the region’s livestock sector.
The report is based on a joint statement released by the EMT Livestock Associations on February 7, 2025, supporting the demands of the Panhellenic Union of Public Veterinary Workers (P.E.K.D.Y.). The statement emphasizes that strengthening public veterinary services is essential for the sector's survival and growth.
In his official statement, MP Özgür Ferhat said:
“Livestock associations from the municipalities of Nevrokopi, Kavala, Dedeağaç, and Xanthi, as well as the Thrakon Amnos Cooperative and the Thrace Red Cattle Breeders' Association, have raised concerns that the future of the livestock sector is at risk. They warn that, if the decline in livestock capital and the number of livestock farmers continues, there will soon be no space for public veterinary services to operate.”
Ferhat urged the government to act immediately to address the severe deficiencies in veterinary services in the region.
In his statement, Ferhat stressed:
"Strengthening public veterinary services in Eastern Macedonia and Thrace is a critical issue for the livestock sector. The government must take swift action, as the risk of the sector’s collapse is very real. We stand with animal producers and veterinarians and demand urgent measures to resolve these issues."
