On the 41st, smallpox outbreaks of sheep and goats arrived in Rhodopi

At the same time, outbreaks throughout the ΕM-Th Region now amount to 214 and the animals that have been killed exceed 39,000.
Four months after the outbreak of zoonoses, its spread is not stopped despite the imposition of protective measures.
According to the head of the Veterinary Services of the ΕM-TH Region, Nikos Fotinias, in ERT, a portion of breeders do not comply with these measures, with the consequence that the beginning of the imposition of fines is now visible on those breeders who, with their indifference, contribute to the continuation of epizootics while at the same time being at risk and by removing the right to receive compensation.
Besides, even if the vaccination of the herds is not considered as a solution at the moment, in the event that such a thing is considered as a one-way street then unfortunately it will be a serious blow to animal husbandry since, on the one hand, milk and meat will be downgraded to second-class products with a consequent reduction in prices and their demand, on the other hand the disadvantageous status in question will last for at least a decade.
