NATO mega exercise through Alexandroupoli

NATO’s largest exercise in Eastern Europe and the Balkans, "Steadfast Dart 25", commenced on Tuesday, involving nine allied armed forces operating across Greece, Romania, and Bulgaria. The month-long exercise features air, naval, land, and amphibious special operations, with centralized oversight from NATO’s headquarters in Naples, Italy.

Greece plays a pivotal role as the base for naval operations, with the port of Alexandroupoli serving as a key hub. Bulgaria hosts special operations and some air operations, while Romania is the primary site for land-based exercises.

The exercise aims to test the operational readiness and rapid deployment capabilities of NATO’s Allied Reaction Force, established in July 2024. Its location in Southeastern Europe underscores NATO’s concerns over Moscow’s activities on the eastern front.

The port of Alexandroupoli, regarded as a strategic asset by both NATO and U.S. forces, has been chosen as the main entry point for allied troops, further cementing its importance in NATO’s regional strategy.
