MP Zeybek: "The government downgrades the education and the profession of tour guides in Greece"
The letter of the Panhellenic Federation of Tour Guides was submitted as a petition to the Greek Parliament by five New Left MPs, on the initiative of the MP of Xanthi, Hussein Zeibek, in which it is noted that the bill that the government of the New Democracy is bringing to vote, downgrades the education and the profession of tour guides in Greece, and paves the way for the upcoming "unguarded" tourism.
In their letter, the tour guides refer to a government bill that restricts tour guides to closed and enclosed spaces, downgrades the work of the School of Guides, and is indifferent to strengthening the control of illegal guided tours.
At the same time they call for the recognition of the significantly multi-dimensional and multi-faceted role of the guide, through specific proposals they have submitted for its definition, as well as the upgrading of the Guide Schools, the reduction of the annual maximum possible number of two-month accelerated seminars, and the abolition of the possibility of conducting them by the Lifelong Learning Centres.
In conclusion, the New Left MPs ask the competent Minister to immediately examine the letter, following the points mentioned in it, and request information on the actions the Ministry intends to take.
