MP Ferhat continues to seek solutions for livestock farmers’ problems

Rodop MP Özgür Ferhat, a member of the New Left Party, is intensifying his efforts to address the pressing issues faced by small livestock breeders, particularly those struggling with the devastating effects of contagious animal diseases.

Ferhat, who has been closely monitoring the challenges faced by farmers who have suffered significant losses due to animal diseases, raised several urgent concerns, including the rising costs of animal feed and the ongoing issue of sheep and goats that have not been sent for slaughter for an extended period.

In a productive meeting held in Athens with the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Yorgos Stratakos, Ferhat discussed the key problems faced by breeders, slaughterhouses, and butchers in the Rodop region. The discussions focused on several key points, including:

🔹 The activation of the 5.2 Support Program (Metro 5.2) to allow farmers who have lost their herds to purchase new animals with 100% state support,

🔹 Providing feed subsidies in light of rising costs,

🔹 Addressing the problems faced by butchers and slaughterhouses regarding the slaughter and sale of sheep and goats that have been unable to be processed due to the ongoing issues, particularly before Easter and May 1st.

Ferhat expressed optimism, noting that with the information and guidance received from the General Secretary, he and his team would continue to stand by the livestock farmers of the Rodop region. He emphasized, “Supporting the producers who are the backbone of our local economy and traditions is undeniably our priority. We stand with them, we are seeking solutions, and we will continue to fight for the survival of the livestock sector.”
