Minority representatives from Komotini in court corridors

The 10 representatives of the Turkish Minority from Komotini, who went to the Komotini Courthouse on 23 December 2024 to give their statements to the judge of the Criminal Court of Peace appointed by the Prosecutor's Office, submitted their written statements on Thursday 16 January.

In the statement made by the representatives of the minority from Komotini on 24 December 2024, it was reminded that in recent years, in the Greek public opinion, especially on a website in the region, baseless allegations, insulting and attacking personal rights of minority politicians, local administrators and representatives of institutions and organisations, and as if this was not enough, articles targeting the minority representatives by publishing their photographs were published one after another, whereupon they published a statement with a joint signature declaring their discomfort with this issue without mentioning anyone by name.

In their statement, they stated that for the good and welfare of the region, they invited all relevant authorities, including the prosecutor's office, to do their duties regarding these baseless news reports made through the press.

The person who stated that this statement was made to him by 17 representatives of the Turkish Minority, which constitute a large part of the Advisory Board of the Turkish Minority of Western Thrace, filed a lawsuit against the minority representatives and admitted that the grievances expressed by the representatives in the statement were also created by him.

The Turkish minority representatives from Komotini, who were called to testify by the Prosecutor's Office, went to the Komotini Courthouse on 23 December 2024 and requested time to give a written statement.

Minority representatives submitted their written statements to the authorities on Thursday 16 January.

NEW ALLEGATIONS AND WARNING

In the meantime, upon the publication of an article containing the same allegations by the person who continued his baseless allegations that constituted the reason for the statement, a warning notice was sent to him by his lawyers on Wednesday, 15 January, upon the request of the minority representatives.
