Mufti of Komotini condemns magazine for publishing cartoon of Prophet Muhammad
İbrahim Şerif, the Mufti of Komotini, has publicly condemned a magazine that published a cartoon depicting the Prophet Muhammad. In a statement posted on his social media account, Mufti Şerif strongly criticized the publication, emphasizing that attacks on Muslim sacred values and symbols cannot be justified under the principles of press and freedom of expression.
Describing the publication as a "provocation," Mufti İbrahim Şerif stated that such acts deeply wound all Muslims. The official social media account of the Elected Mufti Office of Komotini released a condemnation message which included the following:
“For those among you who hope in the grace of Allah and the Last Day, and who remember Allah much, there is certainly a good example in the Messenger of Allah.” (Quran 33:21)
We curse and condemn the magazine named Leman and those who carry this mentality for subjecting the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), who was sent as a mercy to all worlds, to a disgusting caricature.
The statement further emphasized that the attacks on the sacred beliefs and values of Muslims cannot be justified by freedom of press or expression. It called the publication a planned provocation that deeply hurts Muslims worldwide and, in particular, the Muslim Turkish community of Western Thrace.
