Police units in İskeçe arrested a man caught transporting approximately 45 kilograms of illegal tobacco in his vehicle.

The operation was carried out following specific intelligence received by the authorities. Officers stopped the suspect while he was driving his private car. Upon searching the vehicle, police discovered around 3,500 packs of contraband cigarettes and 900 packs of tobacco, weighing a total of 45 kilograms. The goods were reportedly picked up shortly before the arrest from a shipping company’s warehouse.

Further inspection at the same warehouse led to the discovery of an additional 2,500 packs of cigarettes and 1,200 packs of tobacco, with a combined weight of 60 kilograms. These items were also found to be unregistered and untaxed, lacking the required customs documentation.

In total, police seized approximately 6,000 packs of illegal cigarettes, 105 kilograms of tobacco, and the vehicle used for transportation.

The detained suspect will be brought before the İskeçe Magistrate’s Court, while the investigation is being conducted by the İskeçe Crime Investigation and Anti-Smuggling Department.
