Law enforcement officers in Gümülcine update their knowledge on “Illegal Distribution and Sale of Alcohol in the Domestic Market”
A training seminar on the “Illegal Distribution and Sale of Alcoholic Beverages in the Domestic Market – Impacts and Countermeasures” was successfully held on the morning of October 14, 2025, at the Rodopi Regional Unit building (room “G. Pavlidis”) in Gümülcine. The event was organized by the General Regional Police Directorate of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace in cooperation with the Association of Alcoholic Beverages Enterprises (En.E.A.P).
At the opening of the seminar, Brigadier General Lambros Tsiaras, General Regional Police Director of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, welcomed the participants, emphasizing the seriousness of the issue and the importance of ongoing cooperation among the relevant authorities. He noted that illegal alcohol trafficking is not merely a form of criminal activity, but a multifaceted threat to public health, the economy, and social cohesion, expressing his commitment to continue and strengthen inter-agency collaboration to protect public interest, citizen health, and market transparency.
The seminar was also addressed by Emmanouil Tapatzas, Deputy Regional Governor of the Rodopi Regional Unit, and included a video message from George Pitsilis, Head of the Independent Authority for Public Revenue, as well as detailed presentations and interventions by representatives of the Hellenic Police and other relevant authorities and agencies.
The event attracted strong participation from police officers across the General Regional Police Directorate of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, as well as from the Police Directorates of Orestiada, Alexandroupolis, Rodopi, Xanthi, Kavala, and Drama. Officials from the Coast Guard, Customs Services, and other public sector bodies involved in combating smuggling and protecting the market also attended.
The seminar provided a valuable opportunity for exchanging knowledge, experiences, and best practices, with a shared goal of enhancing effectiveness in the fight against illegal distribution and sale of alcoholic beverages.
