İskeçe to host the Tri-National Taekwondo Cup of Eastern Macedonia & Thrace for a second consecutive year
The Hellenic Taekwondo Federation has announced that the Tri-National Cup of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace will once again take place in İskeçe, on 21–22 March 2026. The event, part of the Olympic Taekwondo discipline, will feature athletes from Türkiye, Bulgaria, and all across Greece.
Official Federation Statement
According to the announcement:
“Having earned the trust of the Hellenic Taekwondo Federation—both in organizational and competitive aspects—in 2025, the Municipality of İskeçe, led by Mayor Stratos Kontos, and the Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, headed by Regional Governor Christodoulos Topsidis, will continue to support major sporting events in 2026. İskeçe will host this large-scale athletic event for a second consecutive year.”
The city is expected to welcome more than 1,500 ‘sports tourists’ from the three participating countries over the course of three days.
Federation President Christos Manolis, during a meeting with the Mayor of İskeçe a month earlier, expressed the desire for the event to become “a long-standing institution on Thracian soil.”
Key Local Contributor
Serving as the link between the Hellenic Taekwondo Federation and the local institutions of İskeçe is the tireless and highly active İskeçe-based coach Andreas Christidis, whose contribution to the city is described as significant—both as a former athlete and now as a coach and co-organizer.
His work in promoting the sport has created a strong connection between taekwondo and the social life of İskeçe, while also generating important economic benefits through sports tourism.
Looking Ahead
The announcement concludes with a call to support the young athletes of İskeçe on their home ground:
“We look forward to celebrating and applauding the children of İskeçe in their own arena. We wish the best of luck to both the athletes and the organizers.”
