İskeçe Deputy Regional Governor Polyxeni Brika resigns, cites family health reasons

Polyxeni Brika has stepped down from her role as Deputy Regional Governor of İskeçe in the Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, citing urgent family health reasons, officials confirmed.

Her resignation was accepted by Regional Governor Christodoulos Topsidis, who stated that the decision was not politically motivated but driven by unforeseen personal circumstances.

In a written statement, Brika said she would be unable to fulfill her duties without interruption in the coming period due to a sudden family health issue, prompting her to step down in order to ensure continuity in public administration.

“Given the likelihood of my absence, I believe this situation is incompatible with the responsibilities of my position,” she noted.

Brika expressed gratitude to Topsidis for his trust, describing her tenure as an honor and emphasizing her commitment to serving the region. She also thanked citizens for their support during her time in office.

Despite her resignation from the executive role, Brika confirmed she will remain active in politics as a regional council member, continuing to contribute to public service.

According to local media reports, Vaso Pavlakaki is expected to succeed Brika, with an official announcement anticipated on May 1.

The leadership transition is expected to ensure administrative continuity in İskeçe while Brika addresses her family obligations.
