Hotel Elena closes after nearly 30 years in operation

On December 31, 2024, Hotel Elena, one of the most historic hotels in Xanthi, officially ceased operations, marking the end of an era. The property will now be repurposed into private student residences.

A Historic Farewell

In its statement, Hotel Elena, which first opened in 1996, reflected on its nearly three-decade-long journey. Founded by Evangelos Markopoulos and later managed by his son, Theodoros Markopoulos, the hotel became a cornerstone of Xanthi’s hospitality sector, hosting thousands of guests over the years.

Despite achieving peak occupancy rates and operating at a high level of efficiency, the hotel management cited administrative fatigue and the growing demands of adapting to the region's evolving tourism landscape as reasons for its closure.

Gratitude to the Community

The management expressed heartfelt thanks to:

Local professionals for their unwavering collaboration.
Thousands of loyal guests who helped sustain the hotel’s success without the need for external financing.
Dedicated employees who treated the hotel as their second home.
The residents of Xanthi for their constant support and advocacy.
A New Chapter for the Property
As the building transitions into student housing, the owners wished everyone in Xanthi, Thrace, and Greece a prosperous 2025 filled with creativity and success.
