Helmet use checks continue intensively in Eastern Macedonia and Thrace
Between 22 and 28 September 2025, police officers of the General Regional Police Directorate of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace carried out 1,196 targeted inspections as part of the “Zero Tolerance for Non-Use of Helmets” campaign. The initiative aims to ensure gradual and universal compliance with helmet use among riders of motorcycles, mopeds, three-wheelers, rental vehicles without cabins, as well as users of Light Personal Electric Vehicles (LPEVs).
During these checks, carried out by Traffic Police Services in Orestiada, Alexandroupolis, Rhodope, Xanthi, Kavala, and Drama, a total of 56 violations were confirmed:
43 violations by motorcycle riders,
5 violations by motorcycle passengers,
8 violations by LPEV users.
In addition, police officers from Alexandroupolis, Rhodope, Kavala, and Drama conducted public awareness activities during the same period. These included informative talks on the mandatory use of protective helmets, road safety, and traffic education, as well as the distribution of informational leaflets to local citizens.
The General Regional Police Directorate of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace emphasized the importance of helmet use, noting:
“Whether riding or being a passenger on a motorcycle, wearing a helmet is not just a legal obligation—it is an act of personal responsibility and collective maturity. It is the simplest, most affordable, and often life-saving action one can take.”
Authorities confirmed that helmet checks will continue at full intensity across the region.
