Gümülcine Municipality presents “City for All” project in Brussels
The Municipality of Komotini (Gümülcine) participated in the European Week of Regions and Cities (EU Regions Week) held in Brussels from October 13 to 15.
A delegation led by Deputy Mayor for Cleaning and Recycling, Kimon Lehudis, represented the municipality and presented Komotini’s award-winning project, “Komotini, City for All.” The presentation took place on Wednesday, October 15, during a session of the European Committee of the Regions focused on accessibility and social inclusion.
Komotini stood out as the only Greek municipality to deliver an independent presentation during this special session.
During their visit, the municipal delegation held a series of meetings with European disability organizations and Members of the European Parliament (MEPs). They met with MEP Kostas Arvanitis on Monday, October 13, Elenora Meleti on Tuesday, October 14, and Yannis Maniatis on Wednesday, October 15.
In addition, Deputy Mayor Lehudis took part in a session organized by the Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, titled “Prevention, Preparedness, and Protection in the EU’s Border Regions.”
Officials noted that these discussions have laid the groundwork for future joint projects and emphasized that Komotini’s inclusive city model is gaining increased visibility across Europe.
