Governor of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace meets with rector of Trakya University

The Governor of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace (EMT), Christodoulos Topsidis, held a productive meeting on Monday with the Rector of Edirne University, Dr. Mustafa Hatipler, along with university professors and administrative staff. The discussions focused on cross-border cooperation programs aimed at enhancing regional development.

Among the key topics addressed were:

Mosquito Control Collaboration: In the presence of Deputy Governor for Digital Transition and E-Governance, Ritvan Molla Isa, both parties explored joint initiatives to combat mosquito infestations in the region.

Upgrading the European Center for Exotic Animal Diseases: The governor provided updates on the collaboration between the regional government, the Ministry of Rural Development and Food (YPATT), and ELGO-DIMITRA to enhance the European Center for Exotic Animal Diseases in Evros. This project aims to improve disease prevention and strengthen biosecurity in the primary sector.

Modernization of the Kipi Border Crossing: Recognized as a key infrastructure project, the upgrading of the Kipi border checkpoint is expected to boost cross-border trade and tourism, benefiting both Greece and the European Union.

The governor also highlighted the priority areas of the EMT region, with a particular emphasis on Democritus University of Thrace. He expressed readiness to launch joint initiatives involving local government, universities, and the business community to explore new avenues for cross-border cooperation.

"We are prepared to move forward with a series of collaborative actions, bringing together representatives from local governance, academia, and the private sector to unlock the potential of our border region," stated Governor Topsidis.
