"Government has abandoned livestock farmers," Says New Left

The New Left party has criticized the government for failing to deliver on its promised support for livestock farmers.

In a statement, the party pointed out that nearly two months ago, the Minister of Justice and the Minister of Agriculture had announced subsidies for animal feed and de minimis aid payments for farmers affected by livestock diseases. However, the statement emphasized, "Despite the time that has passed, not a single penny has reached the hands of farmers."

A separate statement from the political office of New Left MP Özgür Ferhat of the Rhodope region further condemned the government’s inaction:

"Once again, the New Democracy government has demonstrated that it has neither a concrete plan nor real political will to support workers in the primary production sector. Livestock farmers have been abandoned in the face of a deepening crisis and left to fend for themselves."

The statement highlighted the dire economic situation of the livestock industry, particularly in heavily impacted regions such as Thrace and Thessaly. It noted that, despite promises of both general support and specific aid measures, none had been implemented. With feed prices reaching historic highs, farmers remain in the dark about when or how much aid they will receive.

As a result, the New Left party has outlined the following demands:

Immediate payment of the promised feed subsidies.

Fair and transparent distribution of aid based on actual needs, rather than political interests.

The development of a comprehensive livestock support plan that includes concrete, field-applicable measures rather than mere rhetoric.

"This is a time for action, not words. Farmers are at the breaking point," the statement concluded.
