Former WTMUGA president Mehmet Emin dies after sudden heart attack
Mehmet Emin, a former president of the Western Thrace Minority University Graduates Association, has passed away following a sudden heart attack earlier today, according to local sources.
Emin reportedly suffered a cardiac incident while traveling in a vehicle driven by his wife in the Dimetoka region. Despite immediate circumstances, he could not be saved and was pronounced dead shortly after.
A prominent figure within the Turkish minority community of Western Thrace, Emin was known for his long-standing contributions to civil society and advocacy efforts. His leadership at WTMUGA left a lasting impact on the organization and the broader community it represents.
Funeral arrangements have been announced for Friday, April 17. Following a ceremony at his home after the afternoon prayer, his body will be taken to Mastanlı Cemetery, where he will be laid to rest after the funeral prayer.
In response to his passing, the Western Thrace Turkish Minority Advisory Board issued a statement expressing deep sorrow.
“We have learned with profound sadness the passing of Mehmet Emin, one of the former presidents of WTMUGA. We extend our condolences to his family, relatives, and the entire community. May he rest in peace,” the statement read.
Numerous minority institutions and organizations have also shared condolence messages, highlighting Emin’s dedication to the cause of the Turkish minority in Western Thrace.
