EMT Region Independent Union Initiative List issues proposal for Palestine

The "independent" list represented in the Region of Thrace of Eastern Macedonia has asked the Region Assembly to issue a statement on Palestine.
Steryos Iliopoulos, Independent State Assembly member of the EMT, presented a proposal to stop the Israeli aggression against Palestine and to recognise Palestine as an independent country by Greece.
The proposal is expected to be discussed at the next state parliament meeting.
The proposed declaratory resolution submitted by Iliopoulos to the Presidency of the EMT Region Assembly is as follows:
"At a time when Israel is escalating its ethnically cleansing military operations in the Gaza Strip, this resolution is an expression of solidarity with the Palestinian people, who have lost at least 35,000 since the start of the brutal attacks targeting 2,000,000 civilians.
Since the brutal and deadly attacks on 2,000,000 civilians began seven months ago, dozens of hospitals and schools have been destroyed, leaving at least 35,000 dead, including 14,000 children, more than 75,000 wounded and 8,000 missing.
In the name of peace and humanity and because we are a people who have lived through wars, refugees, abandonment, betrayal and mistakes, we do not have the right to remain mere observers of events.
- Immediate cessation of all military operations against the Palestinian civilian population,
- We DEMAND that our country be disassociated from the crime being committed and that the State of Palestine be recognised in accordance with the recent UN General Assembly resolution and the unanimous decision of the Greek Parliament in 2015.
