Edirne Governor Yunus Sezer visits Western Thrace
Edirne Governor Yunus Sezer and his accompanying delegation visited Western Thrace on February 14, Friday, meeting with the local Turkish minority community.
Accompanying Governor Sezer were Edirne MP Fatma Aksal, İpsala District Governor Ömer Sevgili, İpsala Mayor Mehmet Kerman, and İpsala Mufti Ahmet Bayraktar.
The delegation began their visit in Dinkler village in Xanthi, where they attended Friday prayers at the village mosque and met with members of the Turkish minority. They were welcomed by Türkiye’s Consul General in Komotini, Aykut Ünal, and his wife İlayda Ünal, Xanthi Mufti Mustafa Trampa, and Xanthi MP Hüseyin Zeybek.
Following the Friday prayer, Governor Sezer delivered a brief speech, affirming that Türkiye stands by the Turkish minority of Western Thrace. He also emphasized the recent improvement in relations between Türkiye and Greece as neighboring countries.
Prior to the prayer, Ibrahim Şerif, the Chairman of the Western Thrace Turkish Minority Advisory Board and Mufti of Komotini, delivered a sermon, while İpsala Mufti Ahmet Bayraktar led the prayer.
Visits to Local Institutions
After the mosque visit, the delegation proceeded to the İskeçe Turkish Union (İTB), where they were received by President Ozan Ahmetoğlu and the Board of Directors. Ahmetoğlu briefed the delegation on İTB’s legal struggle and ongoing activities.
The İTB expressed its gratitude, stating on social media:
"The Governor of Edirne, Mr. Yunus Sezer, and his delegation visited the İskeçe Turkish Union. They were welcomed by our president, board members, teachers, and fellow community members. We thank them for their visit and wish them success in their work."
Meanwhile, the female members of the delegation, including MP Fatma Aksal and İlayda Ünal, visited Dinkler Hanımeli Association, where they learned about its activities.
The delegation then traveled to Komotini, completing their visit with a stop at the Komotini Turkish Youth Union (GTGB).

The Turkish Consulate in Komotini shared a message regarding the visit:
"Edirne Governor Mr. Yunus Sezer, Edirne MP Ms. Fatma Aksal, İpsala District Governor Mr. Ömer Sevgili, İpsala Mayor Mr. Mehmet Kerman, and İpsala Mufti Mr. Ahmet Bayraktar visited our region and met with our compatriots."
Following their engagements, Governor Sezer and his delegation departed from Xanthi, concluding their visit to Western Thrace.
