Early detection of colon cancer with self-test program ‘Prolamvano’
The Ministry of Health has launched a screening program called “Prolamvano” to promote early detection of colon cancer, which is common in the population. Citizens aged 50-69 can now perform cancer screenings at home using a self-test kit available for free at pharmacies.
Pharmacist Nevzat Çolak explained the details of the Prolamvano program and the self-test process.
The self-test procedure is as follows:
Place a special paper on the toilet bowl and use it to collect a stool sample. Use the swab provided to take three samples from the stool on the paper and mix it in the solution bottle. Drop 3-4 drops from the prepared mixture onto the test cassette and wait 5 minutes. Report the result to the pharmacy.A negative result indicates no blood was detected in the sample, while a positive result suggests that blood might be present, though this does not always indicate cancer. In such cases, further examination, like a colonoscopy, is recommended.
The Prolamvano program will run until March, offering free consultations and colonoscopies to citizens with positive test results. For more information, individuals can visit Nevzat Çolak’s pharmacy on Leoforos Iroon Street in Komotini or consult other pharmacists.
