The Didimoteichon Municipality's Water and Sewerage Department (DEIAD) has started collecting outstanding water and sewer bills from residents using an unusual method—going door-to-door. Municipal employees are visiting homes in an effort to collect payments or arrange payment plans for overdue bills.

Officials are attempting to convince residents to either pay their debts or enter into installment agreements, warning that if no action is taken by the set deadlines, water services will be cut off.

Reports from local news outlet Evros-news.gr indicate that even residents who do not have large amounts of debt or have already arranged installment payments have been visited by municipal employees.

Yagzidis, the head of the Water and Sewerage Department, explained that the door-to-door collection method was adopted after written notifications were sent to delinquent residents requesting payment. He acknowledged that while this approach was a last resort, residents had been warned about service disconnections due to unpaid debts. The municipality had delayed disconnections during the summer due to high temperatures and social concerns. However, those who have not made any arrangements will face disconnection if they fail to take action promptly.
