Construction of Kucukkoy bridge and traffic regulation project discussed
At the meeting held on 26 February, upon the invitation of Emanuil Tapacas, Deputy Head of the Rhodope Department, the project "Renovation of the existing bridge over the Deli Ibram (Trelohimaro) Stream on the main road Komotini-Küçükköy-Kuşlanlı - construction of a new one at the same place and vehicle traffic arrangements" was discussed.
The meeting was attended by the Head of the Technical Projects Department of the Rhodope Unit of the Prefecture of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, the contractor of the project Galopoulos Spiridon and his partner, Deputy Mayor of Komotini Municipality Karastavrou Dimitrios, Head of the Technical Services Directorate of Komotini Municipality, Stavros Vargemitzidis, Commander of the Traffic Department of Komotini, members of the Board of Directors of KTEL Komotini and the Board of Directors of the Municipal Bus Services of Komotini.
The new bridge will be 33 metres long and 16.75 metres wide, of which 11 metres will be used for two traffic lanes and the remaining 5.75 metres for pavements and cycle path.
In addition to the construction of the bridge, a total of 1 km long section of the city road from Komotini Radio Station to the entrance of the settlement of Kucukkoy (Kosmio) is planned to be improved with additional construction. The project also includes a 2 metre wide bicycle path.
In a statement issued by the office of Mr Tapachas, Deputy Head of the Rhodope Department, it was stated that the subject of the meeting was the vehicular traffic regulations to be implemented during the construction period of the project. Suggestions on the subject were presented by all relevant organisations.
Based on the safety of citizens during the construction of the project, the Commission proposes alternative access routes to and from the Kosmio settlement.
The project has officially started, the process of making traffic arrangements and relocation of pipelines near the bridge, which delayed the start of the project, continues.
