Installation of concrete blocks begins on New Narlıköy Bridge

A KEY PHASE IN THE PROJECT
Construction on the new Narlıköy Bridge, located over the Narlıköy Stream within the borders of Yassıköy Municipality, has reached a crucial milestone. As of yesterday, the installation of precast concrete blocks has begun, with four blocks already set in place. The completed bridge will consist of a total of 18 blocks.
FROM COLLAPSE TO RECONSTRUCTION
The need for the new bridge emerged after a partial collapse of the old structure in 2017, which significantly disrupted local transportation. In response, a new project was launched to ensure safe and efficient travel between Narlıköy and Yassıköy. Work officially began in 2022, and construction efforts have since accelerated.
OFFICIAL VISIT TO THE SITE
To inspect the progress, Eastern Macedonia and Thrace Regional Governor Christodoulos Topsidis visited the site along with Vice Governors Rıdvan Molla İsa, Emmanouil Tapakas, and Rıdvan Hacı Mehmet, as well as Regional Advisor Ahmet Osman Pehlivan and Yassıköy Mayor Caner Imam. The delegation received updates directly from the engineers of the contracted company on-site.
Following the inspection, the officials met with local residents in Yassıköy, engaging with the public and listening to their concerns.
TECHNICAL DETAILS AND TIMELINE
The new bridge, being built by the company "Ergobeton Aveteth" (ΕΡΓΟΜΠΕΤΟΝ ΑΒΕΤΕΘ), will cost €4.1 million. Once completed, it will span 114 meters in length and measure 11 meters in width. According to the contract signed in May 2022 with then Regional Governor Christos Metios, the construction is expected to be completed within 20 months.
The new structure is set to provide a safer, more efficient route, replacing the narrow and outdated upstream bridge currently in use.
