A criminal complaint has been filed after a 15-year-old student in İskeçe was beaten by a group of nine people following a school event on the eve of October 28, local media and the victim’s family say.

The boy was reportedly lured by two schoolmates who called to ask where he was. Minutes later, an unknown individual approached him and, together with others who emerged from a car, dragged him into a side street and attacked him. The teenager sustained blows to the head and was treated in hospital.

In an interview with ERT and on the MEGA programme Koinonia ora, the victim’s mother — who asked to remain anonymous — described the attack and said she has filed a complaint with police. The victim identified one of the assailants as a final-year high-school student from another school who is involved with one of the two girls; the mother said she believes jealousy was the motive.

She told reporters that while her son was in hospital the girls allegedly taunted him, asking “Did you get beaten, boy?” and that the suspected attacker later messaged the victim apologising and claiming he thought the boy was bothering his girlfriend. The mother says she has heard that the same individual had acted similarly toward another child in the past.

Police investigations are ongoing. School officials and local authorities have been asked to establish the facts and take necessary measures to protect students, the reports said. The victim’s mother said she expects results from the police and the prosecutor and urged parents to be aware of their children’s behaviour.
