Cherry Festival kicks off in Bulatköy with strong community spirit

The 23rd Cherry Festival in Bulatköy officially opened on Friday evening, May 30, bringing together local residents, cultural groups, and officials in a celebration of agriculture, tradition, and unity.
The event is jointly organized by Yassıköy Municipality and the Bulatköy Culture and Folklore Association.
Yassıköy Mayor Caner Imam opened the festival with a warm welcome, highlighting the cherry as not just a fruit but a symbol of local heritage, hard work, and community pride. He emphasized the municipality’s continued efforts to support agriculture, including the reactivation of irrigation wells and the development of new water lines to aid local farmers.
“Our festival is not just about cherries—it’s a celebration of our land, our people, and our traditions,” said Imam, noting recent steps taken to improve farming infrastructure in Bulatköy, Eşekçili, and Sendelli.
The evening featured performances by the Turkish Classical Music Friends Association Choir, local students, and traditional folk dance groups, followed by musical acts including the BTAYTD Darbuka Rhythm Group and GRUP LİVE.
The festival continues through June 2, with cultural events and concerts by artists from Greece and Turkiye.
Among the attendees were Turkish Consul General in Komotini Aykut Ünal, Western Thrace Minority Advisory Board President and Xanthi Mufti Mustafa Trampa, Komotini Mufti İbrahim Şerif, MP Özgür Ferhat, and several local leaders and representatives.
