Air navigation infrastructure being upgradet at Alexandroupolis, Kavala airports

Minister of Infrastructure & Transport Christos Staikouras signed the contract for the supply and installation of Voice Communication and Recording Systems (VCRS) at 18 airports across the country and at the Center for Electronic Applications & Major Maintenance (CEMS).

This is a major infrastructure upgrade with new communications systems that was launched and is being implemented, on schedule, at the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).

The modern air navigation technology will be installed at the Control Towers of the airports of Thessaloniki, Heraklion, Rhodes, Corfu, Kos, Alexandroupolis, Limnos, Sitia, Milos, Samos, Kavala, Kalamata, Kalamata, Ioannina, Chios, Skiathos, Aktio/Preveza, Karpathos and Paros. The contract concerns the company "S.I.T.T.I. S.p.A.", at a total cost of 11,120,910 euros (co-financed by NSRF), and provides for partial deliveries until the end of 2025.

CAA Commander George Saounatsos informed that "the new VCRS systems achieve compliance with international standards and new applications required by the European area, enhancing the efficiency of Air Traffic Management through operational facilitation, and providing maximum safety due to redundant devices and redundancy".
