The Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace has announced a strategic partnership with British airline Jet2 aimed at strengthening tourism promotion and air connectivity to Thasos and Kavala ahead of the summer 2026 season.

The agreement marks another milestone in the region’s expanding international outreach, following a recent connectivity announcement with Eurowings. Within just one year, the region has secured multiple airline partnerships, signaling growing interest from major European carriers.

Strategic Push for UK Market Expansion
The collaboration with Jet2 is expected to significantly enhance direct access from the United Kingdom, opening new opportunities for tourism growth across Eastern Macedonia and Thrace.

Regional Governor Christodoulos Topsidis emphasized that the partnership reflects the region’s rising profile on the global tourism map:

“We are particularly satisfied with our cooperation with Jet2, as it represents a strong recognition of the dynamic development of our region in international tourism.”

He added that direct air connectivity between Kavala and the UK market will create new prospects, especially for Thasos, highlighting its appeal as a destination offering authentic hospitality aligned with modern travel trends.

Long-Term Tourism Development Plan
The partnership is part of a broader three-year strategic plan launched by the region to:

  • Strengthen international visibility
  • Attract new airline partnerships
  • Upgrade the role of regional airports

This targeted approach reflects a clear political commitment by the regional administration to boost tourism competitiveness.

Jet2: “A Fantastic New Destination”
From the airline’s side, Jacob Bramley, General Manager of Airports and Tourism Organizations at Jet2, welcomed the collaboration:

“We are delighted to partner with the Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace to promote the stunning island of Thasos, which is our newest destination.”

He stressed that partnerships remain key to sustained success and expressed enthusiasm for launching services to what he described as a “fantastic, brand-new destination.”

Strengthening Regional Tourism Identity
Deputy Regional Governor for Tourism Panagiotis Archontis underlined that the region continues to systematically expand its international presence by leveraging:

  • Its airport infrastructure
  • Strong destination branding
  • Modern cooperation models with global tourism stakeholders

The initiative is expected to elevate the tourism profile of Kavala, Thasos, and the wider Eastern Macedonia and Thrace region, positioning them as increasingly attractive destinations for European travelers.
