Romanian, Turkish and Bulgarian visitors drive tourism spending in Eastern Macedonia and Thrace
Visitors from Romania, Türkiye and Bulgaria continue to account for the largest share of tourism spending in the Eastern Macedonia and Thrace region, according to the latest tourism data.
The figures show that neighboring markets remain the backbone of the region's tourism industry, with cross-border travel contributing significantly to local businesses, accommodation providers, restaurants and retail outlets.
Romanian visitors recorded the highest overall expenditure, while tourists from Türkiye and Bulgaria also ranked among the region's biggest spenders, reflecting the importance of regional travel for the local economy.
Officials believe the region's geographic proximity, road connectivity and cultural ties continue to make Eastern Macedonia and Thrace an attractive destination for visitors from neighboring countries.
