16 arrests for drug offenses in Eastern Macedonia and Thrace
Police carried out a series of coordinated operations across northern Greece resulting in 16 arrests for drug-related offenses between May 29 and June 4, 2026.
The operations were conducted by officers from regional police departments in Meriç, Dedeağaç, Drama, Rhodope eand Kavala as part of targeted efforts to combat drug trafficking and distribution.
According to authorities, 15 Greek nationals and one foreign national were arrested, with 12 separate case files opened under legislation covering narcotics and, in some cases, weapons violations.
In one incident in Drama, two individuals were arrested after one allegedly sold a small quantity of cannabis to another for financial compensation. The drugs were seized at the scene.
In a separate case on the island of Thasos, police arrested two individuals, including a minor foreign national, after an alleged purchase of a cannabis cigarette. A search of a business premises led to the discovery and seizure of multiple cannabis products, including pre-rolled cigarettes, packaged quantities of cannabis, and vaping devices containing cannabis oil. A third individual was also arrested for alleged failure to supervise a minor.
Additional arrests were made across Meriç, Gümülcine, Kavala, Thasos and Drama during routine and targeted checks. Police reported the seizure of small quantities of cannabis, narcotic tablets, cannabis cigarettes, a metal rod and a grinder.
Authorities said the operations are part of ongoing efforts to disrupt drug distribution networks and increase enforcement across the region.
