Second Balkan Symposium held in Tekirdağ
The Second International Balkan Symposium was held in Tekirdağ from December 19 to 21, bringing together nearly 30 experts and academics to discuss “Ottoman Culture and Civilization in the Balkans.”
The symposium was hosted by Tekirdağ Namık Kemal University in cooperation with the Balkan Research Center and with the support of the Presidency for Turks Abroad and Related Communities (YTB).
Coordinated by Prof. Dr. Halit Eren, the two-day academic gathering provided a platform for in-depth discussions on the historical, cultural, and civilizational legacy of the Ottoman presence in the Balkans.
In his opening remarks, Namık Kemal University Rector Prof. Dr. Mümin Şahin emphasized the significance of such international scholarly events, stating that they make an important contribution to strengthening historical awareness and reinterpreting shared memory.
During a reception held for international guests, Rector Şahin also introduced Namık Kemal University, noting that nearly 2,000 international students are currently enrolled at the institution. He underlined that the university remains open and welcoming to students from Turkish communities abroad and related populations.
