Erdoğan's remarks cause a crisis in Greece
A new tension has emerged in the Ankara-Athens line, where normalisation steps have been taken recently.
The government in Greece, which reacted to NATO's celebration of 30 August in X, formerly known as Twitter, also criticised the speech made by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan yesterday.
In his speech yesterday, Erdogan stated that 15 days after the start of the Great Offensive, Turkish flags were waving in the skies of Izmir, which was burned and destroyed by the fleeing enemy, and said, "Thus, the war fought on the field against the enemy who polluted the eternal homeland Anatolian lands with their treacherous ambitions and dirty boots for nearly 3.5 years was won."
STATEMENT FROM THE MINISTRY
Erdoğan's words had a great repercussion in Athens.
The Greek Foreign Ministry made a statement on Erdoğan's remarks. In the statement, it was emphasised that Erdoğan's remarks did not help the development of relations between the two countries and were damaging.
The offensive statements are damaging and do not contribute to an environment of calm, cooperation and dialogue that should be created in the construction of relations between Turkey and Greece," the statement said.
