Ronaldo hints at final season of career

Cristiano Ronaldo has suggested that the 2026-27 campaign could be the final season of his record-breaking football career, saying he wants to leave the sport with a “spectacular legacy.”

The 41-year-old Portugal captain made the comments in an interview with Vogue released Sunday, ahead of his wedding to longtime partner Georgina Rodriguez.

“This is probably my last year of football, and I want to leave a spectacular legacy,” Ronaldo said.

Future beyond football

Ronaldo said he is already preparing for life after football and expects to spend more time with his family after more than two decades at the highest level.

He said he has his future planned and intends to stay active through travel, padel and other interests.

Ronaldo acknowledged that retirement could leave a significant gap in his life after 25 years of professional football marked by extensive sacrifice.

A career of historic achievements

Ronaldo has spent the past five seasons with Saudi Pro League club Al-Nassr after leaving Manchester United in late 2021.

Widely regarded as one of football’s greatest players, he has won five UEFA Champions League titles, league championships in England, Spain and Italy, and the UEFA European Championship with Portugal.

He also remains the leading goalscorer in men's international football.
