EU Directive on common charger for all electronic devices now in effect
All electronic devices sold in the European Union will use the same type of battery charger, USB-C, as of December 28, New Democracy Eurodeputy Dimitris Tsiodras told Skai TV on Saturday.
Tsiodras is a member of the European Parliament's Committee on the Internal Market and Consumer Protection and was speaking to journalists Yiannis Pittaras and Giorgos Grigoriadis on the show 'Dekatiani'.
The EU's Common Charger Directive applies to mobile phones, tablets, digital cameras, headphones, headsets, videogame consoles, portable speakers, e-readers, keyboards, mice, portable navigation systems and earbuds sold in the EU. Laptops will need to comply at a later date.
According to AMNA Tsiodras said the measure will make charging devices easier, as consumers will be able to use one charger for their electronic devices, avoiding extra charges and unnecessary cables.
