Reaction of political parties due to mufti election in Xanthi

After the death of the Mufti of Xanthi Ahmet Mete a while ago, due to the election process initiated for the vacant mufti office, hard statements were made, both at the institutional level and at the individual level, from political parties on the right and left, which disregarded the free will of the Turkish minority.

In the first analysis, it is thought that this event has a dimension related to the vote calculation of parties and individuals before the electorate. Desiring to consolidate his political profile against minority voters in the general elections to be held next spring, Dr. Burhan Baran received two mufti candidates, who were nominated to an important institution of the Turkish minority, in a very reasonable manner and within the framework of the freedoms granted to him by the constitution. The attitude of our deputy, who wished success to both mufti candidates, is in no way compelling the law.

However, with the same logic, the Nea Dimokratia (New Democracy) government, which had already lost its minority voters in W. Thrace, turned this situation into an opportunity and jumped on the event with a counter move, on the one hand to fortify the majority votes under the roof of its party, and on the other hand, due to the eavesdropping scandal. The government, which was stuck, wanted to draw the public's attention to the high premiums against the Turks.

It is considered that Nea Dimokratia, that wants to dominate politics on the right in our country, has allowed far-right voters to branch out in their garden after the closure of Chrisi Avgi (Golden Dawn) in 2019, apart from its own electoral base. Of course, it is not possible to expect Nea Dimokratia, who seems to wink at such elements out of fear of votes, to respect minority rights by nature. What we find strange is the following: In this beautiful country, a deputy from a party like SYRIZA, who felt the victimization of prohibitions, oppression, and discrimination, paid a heavy price for freedoms and rights, was the hope of the minority from time to time in the past, and therefore received a great response from the minority be because he was asked Baran not to say "Turk".

The background truth about MP Baran is, of course, exceeding the number of votes. The aim is to eliminate the Turkish identity and cultural structure with all its institutions and actors. Those who make politics on behalf of the minority are also asked to actively mediate this goal. We do not have the slightest doubt about this. The ultimate goal is to render Lausanne inoperable. Because, according to the Treaty of Lausanne, which ensures the law of the Western Thrace Turkish Minority, we do our own schooling and choose our own teacher. We build our own mosque and choose our own imam. We take care of the foundations inherited from our ancestors and choose the management ourself. The process is no different for the office of mufti. We elect the mufti chooses ourself, and the state makes the appointment.

So what is the situation today? The state confiscated the school established by the minority people in the village or in the city, and the state appointed the teacher. The minority established its own foundation, and the government appointed its administration. The Minority built the mosque themself, and the state says that I will appoint its imam and mufti. The main purpose of the noise made is to cover up and legitimize this unlawfulness.

What has been witnessed and what has changed in this country where we wanted to live peacefully and humanely with everyone throughout the century! A hundred years ago, Venizelos proposed autonomy to the Turks of Western Thrace under the Bulgarian occupation and wanted this proposal to be supported by the Greeks living in the region as well. The mind, which proposed autonomy a century ago, imprisoned the people whom it proposed a century later just because they call themselves Turks, forces them to resign from parliament, seizes their institutions, in short, destroys the world! What a blessing time has!

Meanwhile, mufti was elected in Xanthi, and Mustafa Trampa was elected to the office of mufti. Best wishes.
