A change in weather conditions is expected from early Wednesday, bringing rain, thunderstorms and a noticeable drop in temperature across much of the country.
Weather: Rain, storms and temperature drop from Wednesday

The deterioration will begin in northern areas and gradually spread to central and southern Greece, creating a brief autumn-like pattern. Weather activity is expected to intensify during the afternoon and evening hours, with locally strong storms, possible hail and frequent lightning.

Meteorologists say the unstable conditions will continue into Thursday, affecting central and southern mainland regions as well as parts of the Aegean, before gradually improving from Friday onward starting in the north.

According to forecasts, the system is driven by colder air masses moving in from the Balkans, leading to increased instability and a temperature drop of several degrees. Maximum temperatures will fall to around 18–22°C in many areas, while stronger winds from the north will further reinforce the cooler feel.

In Athens, conditions will remain relatively mild on Tuesday but will turn more unsettled from Wednesday and Thursday with a higher chance of rain. Thessaloniki is expected to see rain and storms earlier, with improving conditions later in the week.

Overall, the weather will take on a more autumn-like character midweek, before gradually stabilizing and warming again toward the weekend.

Weather Forecast: Wednesday (22/4) and Thursday (23/4)

Wednesday (22/4)

Unstable weather is expected across much of Greece, starting in the north and gradually spreading to central mainland areas, the Sporades, Evia, and parts of the northeastern Aegean. Cloud cover will increase with local rain and scattered thunderstorms, which may be strong in places during the morning in northern regions.

In the rest of the country, skies will be partly cloudy with occasional cloud increases. Brief snowfall is expected in mountainous areas of northern Greece. Conditions will gradually improve in the northwest by evening, while visibility may be locally reduced in western regions in the morning.

Winds will blow from northern directions in the north at 4–6 Beaufort, while elsewhere they will initially come from the west-southwest at similar strength, turning northerly everywhere by night. Temperatures will drop in central and northern areas, reaching 14–15°C in the north and 22–24°C in the south.

Thursday (23/4)

Cloudy and unsettled weather will continue across much of the country, with local rain and scattered thunderstorms over mainland areas, the southern Ionian Sea, and Crete.

In the north, conditions will gradually improve from the afternoon, while in the south, especially the Ionian, Peloponnese, and Crete, rain and storms will persist into the night.

Snow will fall in higher mountain areas of central and northern Greece. Winds will strengthen from the north at 4–5 Beaufort in most areas, reaching 6–7 Beaufort in the Aegean and Ionian before easing at night.

Temperatures will drop further in central and southern Greece, reaching 15–17°C in inland and northern Aegean areas and 18–20°C elsewhere.
