Konidaris compared the Greek navy with the Turkish navy upon a question in a radio programme.

Emphasising that Greece cannot catch up with Turkey in terms of weapons, Konidaris said: "We are always hiding behind this sentence. We have the advantage of personnel. However, when we have 30-40 years old ships, while the other side has newer technology and weapon power in 5-7 years old ships, our personnel advantage is insufficient."

To the journalist's question whether they have the capability to fight in the Aegean, Konidaris said, "We do, but we do not have the power to continue this. Everyone says that a hot conflict will last for an hour or two and the US will intervene. What will happen if the hot conflict occurs at a time when it is midnight in the USA?"

Konidaris also pointed to Türkiye's relations with countries such as Libya and Albania and argued that Greece should have a force on standby everywhere, not just on the islands opposite Türkiye.
