Very high fire risk in Attica, Crete, and other regions on Wednesday
Greece’s General Secretariat for Civil Protection has issued a Category 4 (Very High) fire risk warning for Wednesday, July 3, across several key regions, citing weather conditions that heighten the danger of wildfires.
According to the official Fire Risk Map, the regions under very high risk include:
Attica, including the island of Kythera
Central Greece: particularly the regional unit of Evia
Peloponnese: including Corinth, Argolida, and Laconia
North Aegean: covering Lesvos, Chios, Samos, and Ikaria
The Civil Protection Authority has advised state services, municipalities, and regional authorities in these areas to remain on heightened alert, ensuring preparedness for any outbreak of fire. Citizens are urged to refrain from open-air burning, barbecues, or any activity that could spark a fire.
Authorities emphasize the importance of vigilance and rapid response, urging the public to immediately report any signs of fire by calling the emergency numbers 199 or 112.
This alert comes amid high temperatures and dry conditions affecting large parts of the country, intensifying concerns ahead of the peak wildfire season.
