In a message of optimism for the Greek labor market, Labor Minister Niki Kerameus highlighted key improvements during her remarks at the DYPA Career Days.

Greeks Returning from Abroad
According to Eurostat data, over the past decade:

  • 680,000 Greeks emigrated for work.
  • 420,000 have returned, meaning approximately two out of three Greeks who worked abroad are now back in Greece.

“This is a strong sign that Greece is becoming a more attractive place to live and work again,” Kerameus said.

Labor Market Developments
The minister noted that:

  • More than 9,000 people have secured jobs through DYPA’s Career Days initiative.
  • The minimum wage has increased by 35% in recent years.
  • In the tourism sector, a new collective agreement has raised the lowest category wage to €950, surpassing the national minimum.

Unemployment Drops, Digital Tools Launched

  • Unemployment has declined to 9%.
  • A new digital platform, Job Match, has been introduced to connect job seekers with tourism sector opportunities.

Social Policy Measures
Applications have opened for free nursery school placements for the 2025–2026 period.

Minister Kerameus emphasized that these efforts aim to reverse the brain drain and strengthen Greece’s position as a competitive and supportive job market for both returning and local workers.
