The outcome of the lawsuit filed by Mufti Mete and Imam Azizoğlu on the grounds of perjury and defamation against them has been announced.

The outcome of the lawsuit filed by the Mufti of Xanthi Ahmet Mete and the Imam of Gökçepınar, Erkan Azizoğlu, on the grounds of perjury and defamation about what happened at the funeral of soldier Ahmet Katunlu in Gökçepınar, has been determined.

At the hearing, the defense of Mufti Mete and Imam Azizoğlu was undertaken by the lawyer Yannis Barkas from Xanthi. The outcome of the case, which was discussed at the Xanthi Courthouse on Tuesday, May 24, was decided today (25.5.2022).

Xanthi Mufti Ahmet Mete and Gökçepınar Imam Erkan Azizoğlu applied to the court on the ground of false news after the funeral of soldier Ahmet Katunlu.

Mete and Azizoğlu filed a lawsuit against Mahitis Newspaper owner Panos Papadopoulos, former ANEL party member Hrisa Utsi, Nuri Farzlı and former appointed Mufti of Xanthi Mehmet Emin Şinikoğlu.

In the court decision announced today (Wednesday 25-5-22), three of the 4 defendants were found guilty, describing the charges as "simple defamation" rather than "libelous defamation". Nuri Farzlı, one of the defendants, was acquitted. It was also decided to end the prosecution of the defendants.
