The single-engine aircraft that crashed in the sea area 1.5 nautical miles northwest of Maleme, Chania, was located late on Thursday at a distance of 300 meters from the coast and at a depth of 2.5 metres.

The two passengers were found unconscious by a lifeguard and were transferred to Chania General Hospital, where they were pronounced dead.
The small plane had taken off from Kopaida and was bound for the airport of Maleme.
