Question to the European Commission regarding dangerous fruit and vegetable imports from Türkiye

Kostas Arvanitis, Vice President of The Left and head of the SYRIZA-PS European Parliament Group, submitted a question to the European Commission concerning food safety and unfair competition caused by agricultural imports from Türkiye.
The MEP highlighted that Greece serves as a gateway for Turkish products, which frequently violate EU food safety regulations, as documented by the Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF). These violations not only endanger public health and consumer protection but also create unfair competition for European and Greek farmers.
Arvanitis asked the Commission:
What measures will it take to ensure Türkiye complies with EU food safety standards, given that the country benefits from the customs union and its status as a candidate for EU membership?
How does it plan to protect European and Greek farmers from unfair competition?
The MEP emphasized that the credibility of EU-Turkey trade relations is at stake, as Turkish products enter the European market without meeting the stringent standards required for EU products.
