Police warn of phishing scam involving fake speeding ticket messages

Police warned the public on Tuesday of a new phishing scam in which fake speeding ticket notifications are sent via SMS, urging recipients not to respond or click on any links.

According to the Hellenic Police, the fraudulent messages claim the recipient has committed a speed limit violation and faces a small fine, providing a link for immediate payment. The messages refer to non-existent procedures and payment platforms.

Police said the SMS often contains grammatical and spelling errors, indicating its fraudulent nature. Recipients are advised to delete the message immediately and avoid clicking on the link or entering any personal or banking details.

Anyone who has already clicked on the link or shared personal information is urged to contact their bank immediately and report the incident to the police.
