Police injured in farmer protests, investigation launched against protesters
An investigation has been launched against protesters on charges of violence and physical harm against public officials following incidents during farmer protests in Karditsa.
On Thursday, January 23, 2025, a police officer was injured during farmer protests in Karditsa (Karadiçe) as demonstrators attempted to block the E-65 highway, causing a brief disruption in traffic.
The injured officer was taken to the hospital and received first aid treatment. In connection with the incident, authorities have opened a legal case against protesters responsible for violence and damages.
The Hellenic Police issued a statement regarding the events:
"During the farmer protests held on January 23, 2025, in Karditsa, a group of demonstrators attempted to breach police barriers and block the E-65 highway. During this action, a police officer was knocked to the ground and injured.
Security forces at the scene intervened to protect the injured officer and disperse protesters from the highway. Legal proceedings have been initiated against those identified as responsible for the incident."
Traffic on the highway was briefly disrupted but returned to normal shortly after. The injured officer is reported to be in stable condition after hospital treatment.
Authorities emphasized that this was an isolated incident, and other farmer protests across the country were concluded peacefully.
