PM Mitsotakis says next general elections to be held in spring 2027
Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis on Wednesday reaffirmed that the country's next general elections will be held in the spring of 2027, at the end of the government's four-year term.
Speaking during a visit to the Istiaia Health Center in northern Evia, Mitsotakis called on supporters of the ruling New Democracy party to prepare for the next electoral contest and expressed confidence in securing a third consecutive majority government.
The prime minister said the government is continuing to strengthen the public healthcare system through investments financed by the European Union's Recovery and Resilience Facility, adding that by the end of the current term Greece would have "the best national health system the country has ever had."
Mitsotakis also referred to the devastating wildfires that struck northern Evia in 2021, saying the government had addressed the challenges left by the disaster and that the region was looking to the future with greater optimism.
The 2021 fires burned for nine days, destroying more than 520,000 acres of land, including large forested areas, and severely impacting local communities and the region's forestry-based economy.
Following the disaster, the government launched the "Evia Meta" ("Evia After") reconstruction program, headed by former minister Stavros Benos.
