Personal identification number requirement for new identity cards begins!
Citizens will now need to have a "Personal Identification Number" to book their appointments. This number is expected to streamline processes in public services and make it easier for citizens to verify their identity.
According to Digital Governance Minister Dimitris Papastergiu, the implementation of the "Personal Identification Number" will be accompanied by a new appointment system for the issuance of identity cards.
This number will become an essential element of the new identity cards and will be mandatory for those who already have a Tax Identification Number (AFM) or a Social Security Number (AMKA).
Before scheduling an appointment for the new identity cards, citizens must generate their Personal Identification Number through the "myinfo" digital platform on Gov.gr.
The Personal Identification Number will be based on the AFM number but will include an additional letter and two digits. One letter and one digit will be chosen by the citizen, while the second digit will be generated by the system.
