Marinakis defends Greek-Turkish policy, stresses importance of Greece’s voice at international meetings

Government spokesperson Pavlos Marinakis defended Greece’s foreign policy and stressed the importance of the country’s presence at international meetings to ensure that its national positions are clearly heard.

In an interview with SKAI TV, Marinakis rejected opposition criticism over the government’s handling of relations with Turkiye, arguing that Athens consistently promotes its national interests without resorting to excessive rhetoric. He pointed to defense agreements, EEZ delimitation deals and Greece’s upgraded energy role as evidence of a broader, effective foreign policy strategy.

“All of this did not exist in previous years. If some prefer a more hardline press conference over these achievements, we choose the results,” he said.

Marinakis also criticized Plefsi Eleftherias leader Zoi Konstantopoulou, accusing her of exploiting national tragedies for political gain and contributing to a deterioration of the political climate. He said certain parties and media outlets repeatedly attempt to link tragic events to government responsibility before investigations are completed.

He further denied claims that he had threatened a journalist with legal action, stating that his comments had been misrepresented and that he had merely referred to citizens’ legal rights.

Finally, Marinakis rejected accusations against the Hellenic Coast Guard over migrant deaths, calling such claims unjustified and premature before official inquiries are concluded.
