The need to avoid a "descent into introversion" that will undo everything achieved so far was highlighted by sources within the opposition PASOK-Movement for Change party on Wednesday, in response to a letter by MP Odysseas Konstantinopoulos calling for a "reboot" of the party's leadership.

"PASOK needs extroverted actions, something that is not served by hasty and coordinated public interventions by those who claim to swear by the institutional functioning of party organs."

The same sources emphasised that "we will not allow the party to sink into introversion and lose within a few days all that was built with efforts and sacrifices."

They pointed out that respect for statutory procedures and provisions is the guarantor of unity and that the timetable laid out in the statutes will be followed to the letter, in accordance with the party's charter.

"The issue now is the fair assessment of the election result in order to draw useful conclusions and to build up the party's strategy and the movements for the reconstruction of the democratic faction," PASOK sources said.

In a letter to the party secretary and members of the party's Political Council on Tuesday, PASOK-KINAL MP Odysseas Konstantinopoulos called for a "leadership, political and organisational restart for PASOK and the great party of the centre-left!"

"We need a strong reboot! A new strong legitimising mandate to make the great PASOK of our aspirations a reality, with leadership that mobilises broader social forces," he underlined.

He urged that the party organs be convened immediately, within the next week, and decide on a specific timetable that will bring forward the party leadership elections - which are scheduled for 2025 - so that both these and the subsequent Congress to decide on the party's policies and elect its collective bodies are completed by the end of the year.
